In January of 2020, I’ll be returning to Warehouse 521 in Nashville to teach Portrait Modeling from life. Students will work at full scale in water based clay on a wooden armature. Portrait Modeling is an effective introduction to my observational clay modeling method, and a great practice for the more advanced student as well. Teaching methods will include demonstration, brief lectures, and individual feedback.

In this five-day workshop at beautiful and historic Brookgreen Gardens, students will work from a model, creating a portrait at 3/4 scale in water-based clay. During the second half of the class, they will cast the portrait and create an original plaster cast of their work. We’ll discuss and practice plaster finishing techniques, as well as some basic treatments to add color to the surface and seal the plaster. Teaching methods will include demonstrations, discussions, and individual feedback. The finished piece can easily be shipped home or transported in a vehicle as necessary.

January 2018, I'll be running  "The Seated Figure" workshop in Nashville Tennessee, at Warehouse 521.  We'll be exploring the expressive possibilities of the seated figure in clay. We'll work from life at a 28" scale with plastiline on a flexible armature.
